Every human has innate need of certain desires that he can fulfill in this world. Among many desires, one important worldly desire for every human lies in the attraction towards the opposite sex. Such attraction and liking gives rise to greater desire of physical attachment with that person. Nikah is the solution for the two people who like each other dearly and want to spend the rest of their lives with one another. This is said because Nikah helps in lawful fulfillment of natural desires with the spouses.
Marriage is not only a lawful means of fulfilling the desires but it also a gateway for increasing the balance of good deeds for a Muslim. For this reason, Allah’s Messenger the Prophet (Peace be upon Him) has significantly called the intercourse with one’s wife as charity.
Further, Allah calls to His servants and says that if the sexual desires are directed towards Zina, then the result is the burden of Hellfire. However, when the desires are fulfilled with the rightful spouse then Allah blesses him with a reward for the same.
Qur’an says,
“One’s intercourse with his wife is a charity, even if he did not have any intention in that regard. My opinion is that this may be true for each intercourse, but he should have a prior intention in that regard at least when he first married her. And Allah’s knows best.”
[Adab uz-Zifaf p.138]
Charity is so necessary for a practising Muslim is also one of the main pillars in Islam. Islam makes our life easier by making charity a part of Nikah relations. This means that even when you do not have money, then also you can fulfil your desires with your spouse with the intention of doing charity beforehand. Such charity will bring regards from Allah and Allah will be pleased with you.
In addition to fulfilling the desires, charity in Nikah also involves fulfilling one’s duties and obligation as the Muslim husband and wife. Talking to one another politely, understanding one another, and building a peaceful home together are all the attributes that attract rewards in Nikah.
