There are a lot of times when we joke about serious things without even giving a second thought. We do not consider the consequences and problems related to our words and thoughts. Nikah, in this matter, is a subject of sincerity and should be dealt with extra care and thoughtfulness. It is not allowed for a man to marry and then claim later that he did not really  mean to enter into a lifetime relationship.

Allah’s Messenger, the Prophet (Peace be upon him) said,

“There are three matters that are considered serious in both serious and non-serious talk: marriage, divorce, and returning a wife who was divorced a non-terminal divorce. “

[Sahih ul-Jami no. 3027]

Further, there is another Hadith that emphasizes on the same matter.

“There are three matters in which it is not permissible to joke: marriage, divorce, and emancipation of slaves.”

[Sahih ul-Jami no. 3047]

So, these Hadith highlights the importance that whenever we talk about Nikah or divorce,we should be clear with our intentions and should not take these matters very lightly.

The sad part is that our youth is so much involved in Haram relationships that they practice Khulwah and even Zina with one another. Such things lead to joking around the topic of Nikah. We do not even realize but in our daily lives we try to pair up our friends with our acquaintances. We might be doing it with no serious intention without even knowing that such topics should not be joked around even in a non-serious way.

Awareness of the same is very important. Once we know what our Deen expects from us then our actions and words becomes clearer. Since the contract of Nikah has such a great and solemn significance, so all the small and big guidelines should be kept in mind before violating any.
