Starting with one of the huge rights of a husband over his wife, the Prophet (P.B.U.H.) said,

“The right of a husband over his wife is such that, if he had an open sore out of which pus matter issued forth and were she to then lick it, she would not still have fulfilled his right over her.” (Sahihul-jami: 3148)

One of the other important rights that a Muslim husband has over his wife is that he may gratify his sexual desires through her at any time. The reason behind this should be very clear to be understood by a noble Muslim. The urgency of man’s sexual desires if not fulfilled might lead to fulfillment through unlawful means. The Prophet (P.B.U.H.) said,

“When a man calls his wife for his need, then she must go to him even if she is standing over the oven.” (Sahihul-jami: 534)

The Prophet (P.B.U.H.) has emphasized that even if a woman is busy and tired, she should not reject her husband when he calls for the bed. If a woman is shows unwillingness to make relations with her husband, she brings upon herself the curse of the angels.

The Messenger of Allah (P.B.U.H.) said:

“If a woman spends the night away from the bed of her husband, the angels curse her until the morning.” (Sahihul-jami: 408)

Extending upon the Hadiths on husband’s right, there is another right the husband practices on his wife which explains that she cannot perform a voluntary fast without the permission of her husband. This right is related to the previous one because if a woman voluntary fasts, then she prevents her husband from having sexual intercourse with her.

The Prophet (P.B.U.H.) said,

“It is not permissible for a woman to fast a voluntary fast while her husband is present, unless she obtains his permission. And she may not grant permission for someone to come in his house, unless he grants permission for that person to enter.” (Al-Bukhari: 5195 and Muslim 1026)

As a woman harms her husband, his wife from the Al-Hurul- Een– the fair maidens of Paradise comes to his defense. The Messenger of Allah (P.B.U.H.) said:

“No woman harms her husband in this world, except that his wife from the Al-Hurul-Een says: ‘Do not harm him, may Allah fight you’. For indeed, He is only a guest with you; the time draws near when when he will part from you and come to us.” (Sahihul-jami: 7192)

These were some of the basic rights that every Muslim couple must be aware of. Knowledge shared is knowledge increased. Keep sharing.
