While finding a partner is not an easy task, one should know precisely what they want. No two women are the same, and I believe that all women look for different qualities in their partners. However, some essential ground qualities are common for all women. Read ahead to know a few of these points.
The Quran says, “And one of His signs is that He created mates for you from yourselves that you may find rest in them and He put between you love and compassion; most surely there are signs in this for a people who reflect.” (30:21)
Respect/Equality
This is the most important quality for a marriage/relationship to be successful. A woman should not feel patronized or for granted. Women want to be treated equally and not fight over authority/dominance. Men should be mindful of how they address women. Being respectful also means avoiding teasing her in public and at home. Both men and women should have mental space for growing and evolving.
Stability
Stability means financially, emotionally and relationally. Women prefer men that they know they can rely on and not someone who’s unpredictable. Being emotionally stable means taking well-thought decisions without experiencing negative thoughts. Even though some think it’s not necessary, every relationship requires stability to be successful.
Confidence
Confidence and happiness are directly proportional. When a man is happy and confident enough about himself, he will be able to find a partner who he can love and appreciate. Since the man is the guardian of the house, it is essential for him to be confident as it will encourage his family members to be confident as well. However, for a marriage to be successful, a man should know the perfect balance between self-confidence and ego. Ego is the feeling of superiority and suppression.
Compassion
Women prefer men that they know they can rely on and not someone who’s unpredictable. Empathy means understanding a woman’s perspective and standing with her. Women long for men who can show that they actually care. Compassion is the direct way to a woman’s heart and strengthens your marriage.
Well Mannered
A man should be able to control his temper and not mistreat his family. Entering the house, like Azrael [Angel of Death] has arrived and shouting at your family is not acceptable. Men should solve problems rather than overreact. Women expect kindness and generosity as they have decided to spend their entire life with them. Women leave their homes (Maiqa) and expect their husbands to be more loving than their own parents.
Expressive
Both men, as well as women, should be able to talk freely and express their opinion without the fear of being judged. Women desire men who are honest about their feelings and are not bottling them up inside.
Faithful
“Say to the believing men that they cast down their looks and guard their private parts…” (24:30)
Men should lower/close their eyes when a woman passes by and not stare at her. Women deserve men who can love a woman fully and not look at other females with bad intentions and vice versa. Even if one is suspicious about a man’s faith, they should talk about it.
