Muslim Nikah is a long complex process that needs your undivided time and attention. As we belong to the Ummah of the Prophet (P.B.U.H.), we tend to follow his footsteps. So, in today’s part of the Fiqh of Nikah, we will discuss some of the precautions you should take while proposing a man or a woman. As guided by Allah, our subconscious mind is always under the impression of not indulging in any Haraam activities. So, while making a proposal also lets us be aware of the dos and the donts.
- The word Khitbah underlies the intentions of a man to seek a woman for proposing her to marry him. Although this does not mean that only man can propose a woman for marriage. This right is also given to Muslim women where they can convey their choice and send the proposal for marriage for the man she is seeking.
- Istikharah is an important activity that is not mandatory but if fulfilled has infinite blessings from Allah. Salat-al-Istikharah is performing Raka’ah with a special Du’a which helps to guide a Muslim towards the right path. We have already talked about Salat-al-Istikharah in our previous articles.
- Some key factors need to be observed before making a proposal to a man or a woman. These factors include checking the status of the person to ensure if marrying the person is forbidden or not. As of now, you should take care that the proposal should not sound an obligation on another. While proposing, the behaviors as per the Shariah should be observed like maintain an adequate amount of distance and not looking into the eyes. Such modesty reflects the character of a better Muslim.
