There are too many misconceptions about Muslim women. It is considered that women in Islam are oppressed or under the burden of men’s scrutiny. This is generally a statement made by those who are the disbelievers of Allah. The true Muslims who know the reality of Qur’an are aware of the fact and the special status that has been given to women in Islam. Muslim women, be daughters, wives, or mothers are elevated in the eyes of society as well as Allah. In this blog article, we bring to you some Hadiths as quoted by Allah (S.W.T.) to spread the knowledge of Muslim women’s role in society.
Islam raises the status of women and honors their minds and capabilities, but without making women like men. In Islam, like men, women are charged with religious duties.
Allah (S.W.T.) said:
“Verily, the Muslim men and women who submit to Allah in Islam, the believers men and women who believe in Islamic Monotheism, the men and the women who are obedient to Allah, the men and women who re truthful in their speech and deeds, the men and women who are patient in performing all the duties that Allah has ordered and in abstaining from all that Allah has forbidden, the men and the women who are humble before Allah, the men and the women who give Sadaqat, the men and the women who observe fast in the month of Ramadan, the men and the women who guard their chastity from illegal sexual acts, and the men and the women who remember Allah much with their hearts and tongues. Allah has prepared for them forgiveness and a great rewards in the form of Paradise.” (Qur’an 33:35)
Women in Islam have a strong stature. They are held accountable for their own actions and are not held responsible for the actions of their husbands and their fathers. So if a woman is righteous then she cannot be harmed by the wickedness of her husband. Conversely, if she is evil and does not have noble virtues then she does not have any share in the righteousness of her husband. Each is an individual responsible for his or her own actions.
Allah (S.W.T.) said:
“Allah sets forth an example for those who disbelieve: the wife of the Nuh and the wife of the Lat. They were under two of our righteous slaves, but they both betrayed their husbands by rejecting their doctrine. So they availed their respective wives not against Allah, and it was said: ‘Enter the fire along with those who enter!’. And Allah has set forth an example for those who believe, the wife of Fir’aun, when she said,: ‘My Lord! Build for me a home with you in Paradise., and save me from Fir’aun and his work, and save me from the people who are polytheists, wrong-doers and disbelievers in Allah.”
Thus, we see through the light of Islam and Qur’an that Muslim women displays a strong position in society and are elevated with their noble deeds towards their husband, children, family, and society as a whole.
