In our last blog, we already highlighted the meaning of Zina and how its harmful for the peace of marriage. Discussing it further, today we will be highlighting how Zina directly reflects the poor Imaan of a Muslim. Most people think that Zina is only harmful for Nikah. But its dangers are multi-fold. In this sense, it means that Zina cannot be committed by someone who is a true believer. If we look deeper, we will realize that Zina is not only a problem of unlawful sexual attraction. But it signifies how weak the Imaan of a person has become.

Zina and the strength of your Imaan.

Any Muslim who has great conscience will have a full Imaan. By this we mean, that the person would be aware that Allah is watching over him and his every single deed. This will bring in him the fear of disobeying Allah especially while committing one the Kabirah Gunah, one of the grievous sins. Committing such a sin indicates that a person is unable to hold the rope of Imaan strongly, at least while he is in the process of committing that sin.

Abu Hurayrah reported that Allah’s Messenger, the Prophet (Peace be upon Him) said:

“A person who commits Zina does not commit it while he is a full believer, nor does he drink alcohol while he is a believer, nor does a thief steal while he is a believer.” [ Al-Bukhari]

Thus, it should be remembered that when a person reaches a situation of committing a Kabirah sin, then he has completely forgotten his Imaan. It is that time when he is farthest from Allah. So, when a Muslim commits Zina, it can be understood that Imaan has completely lost its lights from the sinner’s heart and it just hovers on his head like a cloud. Even then, Allah is All-Mercilful and All-Forgiving because He calls upon his believer that if a person stops committing Zina then the Imaan comes back to him.

Abu Hurayrah reported that Allah’s Messenger, the Prophet (Peace be upon Him) said:

“When a person commits Zina, Iman comes out of him until it is a like cloud over him. When he stops, Imaan returns to him.” [As-Sahihah, no. 509]

Thus, a Muslim who is a true believer will always refrain himself from a grievous sin. In case any of the spouses have thoughts of illegal sexual intercourse with someone other his/her own spouse, then the first thing you need to fix is your Imaan. Let us pray that we all tie ourselves strongly with Imaan. More to come on the punishments of Zina. In shaa Allah in next blogs.
