In our previous blog article, we talked about celibacy in Islam and how it is prohibited. Celibacy is considered to be not so noble act as it stops the Muslim brothers and sisters from extending their families and hence extending Islam and its preaching. Looking at the society today, we see that there is an uprising pattern of celibacy among the Muslim youth. They interchange the idea of celibacy with interdependence without feeling the need to have a partner for life. There is much growing resistance towards family orientation. This needs to stop immediately as the Prophet (Peace be Upon Him) has said that Nikah in Islam helps to complete one’s Deen in a more fulfilling manner. So, how do you avoid celibacy in Islam?
Knowledge is the most powerful weapon for both the poor and the rich. Of you have wisdom that is relevant and which you can share, then you know your exact purpose in life. Here, we are particularly talking about the knowledge of Islam and spreading the awareness about the same. Celibacy generally inculcates in the minds of the person due to lack of knowledge. So the first step needs to be creating an environment which is supported by knowledge and awareness of Islam. For this, you must try to share as many Hadith as you can with your family, friends and children. So, they know exactly what are Allah’s expectations from them.
Secondly, as a parent you must try to keep a sharing relationship with your children so that they feel comfortable in sharing their thoughts and feelings about Nikah. Nikah is a soulful relationship which needs the understanding of two people. So, one must try to develop an environment of talking openly.
Thirdly, the problem of mental illness is taken very insignificantly in most of the families. However, celibacy also results from a childhood trauma or fear which might trigger the decision of resisting from Nikah. So, it is important to talk about all these issues and the problems faced by the generation of today. It is better to find a partner at an early age rather than at very old age. Finding a partner sooner strengthens you both physically and emotionally. Celibacy needs to stop from growing and we have the most important role to play in the same through our commitment to spreading of knowledge of Nikah in Islam.
